Photoshop Award Level 1

  • Overview of the course

    This is a course for students that would like to learn Photoshop skills from basic to more advanced and gain a qualification. You will start by learning tool and techniques through a series of exercises followed by exploring your own ideas and applying skills learnt with the support of the tutor. You will need to keep a portfolio of evidence with notes. This course is designed to follow on from our beginners course – although advisable this may not be essential for all students.

    You will cover these areas
    • adjusting colour and brightness of images
    • using a variety of Photoshop tools
    • application of filters and effects to improve images and create pieces of artwork
    • retouching techniques - eg. removing blemishes
    • combining images - eg. replacing backgrounds
    • advanced techniques aimed at photographers
    • advanced techniques aimed at designers
  • Entry requirements

    Good general computer skills are essential – file management, using Internet etc.
    Ideally you should have some basic Photoshop skills prior to enrolling on this course.
    You will need to be able to access Photoshop at home and be prepared to practice the skills you acquire in class at home. Imagination and application of skills will ensure success. You will be encouraged to bring your own images on a memory stick but stock images will also be available for practice of techniques.
    Interview with tutor necessary.
  • How will I be assessed?

    This an NCFE Level 1 course and all students are required to collect a portfolio of evidence throughout the year which covers 3 units of the qualification –
    • Explore craft resources
    • Explore craft ideas
    • Create, present and review final craft item
    Written and oral feedback will be given by the tutor throughout the year.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
